Nanomaterials are chemical substances or materials that are prepared and used at a nanoscale. Nanostructures play a significant role in the development of scientific and engineering technologies these days. These structures have attracted much attention of scientists all over the globe because of their specific characteristics, influencing their physical, chemical, electrical, biological, and optoelectrical properties. Recently, green synthesis has become a common approach for preparation of nanoparticles (NPs) and its composites. The nature acts like a large “biolaboratory,” which is comprised of plants, algae, fungi, yeast, etc. These naturally occurring biomolecules can play active role in the formation of NPs with different shapes and sizes; thereby, act as a driving force in design of greener, safe, and environmentally benign protocols for the synthesis of NPs and/or nanocomposites (NCs). Plant extracts produce more stable NPs as compared to other methods and it is very straightforward to scale these up. The biogenic synthesis and applications of matrix-based NCs using various parts of plants and its extracts have been discussed. |
