Chemical bonding in SnI4

Popis: The Mossbauer data for both 119Sn and 129I have been analyzed to yield a consistent interpretation of the chemical bonding in SnI4. The SnI bond contains about 23% π-character, and 5–6% shybridization is involved in the iodine σ-bonding orbital. The atoms in SnI4 are essentially neutral, the net charges being −0.015 on iodine and +0.060 on tin. These results resolve the apparent discrepancy between tin and iodine Mossbauer experiments.
