In the new era of globalization, it has become a trend that health education institutions around the world are collaborating with one another in establishing and advancing collaborative education programs through cooperation, communication, information, and resources sharing. In this chapter, we first present the current main forms and models of collaborative education programs, including degree programs (sandwich, dual degree, joint degree, and others) and nondegree programs (clinical rotation, lab rotation, summer school, international student forums/symposia/workshops). We then discuss the barriers and challenges of advancing collaborative global education programs, which include cultural and language barriers, regulatory differences, financial barriers, unbalanced development among countries/institutions/disciplines, institutional barriers, and personal barriers. And lastly, we discuss the strategies to overcome the barriers and conclude with the future trend of the development. |
