Cardanol is an excellent monomer, which is isolated from CNSL for producing polymer. These are polymerized with aldehydes and acids in a particular mole fraction in the presence of catalysts so that it can be converted into resins. In the current work, formaldehyde with catalysts such as NaOH or NH4OH and acids such as HNO3 or H2SO4 were combined for resin preparation. For the thermal characterization of the synthesized CNSL resins, studies on differential scanning calorimetric and thermal gravimetric analysis were carried out. Characterization studies were also carried out with respect to the mechanical properties such as hardness and rigidity. Scientists are optimistic that the resin formulations with various tunable properties could be used for composites applications when acid-and alkali-based synthesis of the CNSL resins yielded many significant compositions with varied properties.
