In August, 1991, Telecom Australia established the Telecommunications Software Research Centre (TSRC) in conjunction with the Department of Computer Science at the University of Wollongong. For 1992, the opportunity was taken for the PhD students and staff of TSRC to devise and supervise major third year undergraduate software projects. The capstone Software Project subject is a one-year/six student design and implementation exercise that fully utilises the skills learnt through the three-year degree course. The paper describes the choice of software projects, their supervision, and the overall success of this approach to integrating the research program with the mainstream Software Engineering teaching. |
