Popis: | The current investigation emphasizes the crucial role of natural products of plant origin in vector control by evaluating the mosquito larvicidal efficacies of the essential oil from Eryngium foetidum L. (Apiaceae) against the fourth instar larvae of Aedes albopictus Skuse (Diptera: Culicidae). Gas chromatography-mass spectrometry analysis was used to reveal the chemical composition of essential oil obtained from aerial parts. The essential oil showed good larvicidal effect and the LC50 value in 24 h was 33.3 ppm (LC90=57.7 ppm). The major chemical constituents found in the essential oil were 2-dodecen-1-al (46.68 %) and caprinic alcohol (14.8 %). Results of this study showed that the leaf essential oil of E. foetidum may be used as a potent source of natural larvicidal principles against A. albopictus. |
