This paper presents a mathematical model of a DC-DC Buck Converter for simulation using Matlab/Simulink software for pedal assisted bicycle (PAB). The DC-DC buck converter is used to control the output voltage of DC motor load which is coupled to PAB by using a pulse width modulation (PWM) switching signal controlling the duty cycle (d) operation of on and off of the MOSFET. Thus, it controls the speed of the PAB as well as the power delivered to the load. This paper only discusses its operation under open loop control mode since the PAB requires no constant speed. The simulation results show the converter responses with pure resistive load and inductive load (DC motor). The responses on unpredictable changes like variable duty cycles, transient input voltages and transient loads are also discussed in this paper. |
