The sequence of facts and dates relating to the repurchase and re-pawning of the diamonds mentioned in Pushkinʼs diary is contradicted by annotations to his diary and letters, by the “Annals” and the “Chronicle” of his life and work, as well as by studies of his fi nancial circumstances. This article restores the exact chronology of this episode in Pushkinʼs biography and clarifies the circumstances surrounding the events. Information concerning the poetʼs gambling debt to V. Ogonʼ-Doganovsky — L. Zhemchuzhinikov is also further defined. Finally, in order to clear his debt, Pushkin resold jewellery previously repurchased from the pawnshop to the merchant and user N.
