Popis: Reports of facial paralysis due to cat scratch disease (CSD) are rare, and CSD can cause other more common neurological complications. We report here the case of a 17-year-old girl with right lower facial motor neuron paralysis and a disturbance in opening her mouth. MRI revealed swelling of the right parotid and submandibular glands, with multiple lymph-node swelling simulating a malignant lymphoma. In this case, a biopsy of the lymph-node was required to obtain the final diagnosis of CSD. Erythromycin therapy showed remarkable efficacy, and the facial paralysis was completely resolved. Recently, the causative agent of CSD has been identified as Bartonella henselae, and serum assays or PCR tests for the presence of Bartonella henselae have been developed. However, the mechanisms responsible for the neurological complications due to Bartonella henselae remain unknown.
