This paper reports on numerical thermal studies of cold CO2 injection into the Bunter Closure 36 prospect, analysing temperature effects during the injection and assessing the time required by the aquifer to recover the initial natural temperature. Fluid flow properties and pressure variation in the injection area are analysed, assessing different cooling scenarios that might occur depending on the thermal properties of the geology surrounding the storage site. Different thermal modelling approaches are presented, discussing some aspects of input data and setup. Information from thermal simulation studies might feed injection design, geo-mechanical analysis, and monitoring of CO2 migration. |
