| Popis: | A new method of treatment of acute gastrointestinal bleeding by selective arterial infusions of vasoconstrictors is reported. The effects of selective infusions of a combination of epinephrine and propranolol and of pitressin into the superior mesenteric artery were explored first in 12 dogs. Subsequently, 5 patients with massive acute gastrointestinal bleeding were treated successfully by selective arterial infusions of propranolol and epinephrine. Suggestions concerning methodology and the further development of this method are offered. |
