Popis: This chapter reviews the postcombustion environmental controls developed for coal-fired power plants with a focus on commercially proven technologies implemented in power plants since 1970. Improvements in electrostatic precipitator (ESP) technology are discussed along with fabric filters (FFs) and combination ESP/FF systems. Wet scrubbers for acid gases (SO 2 , HCl) are reviewed in detail. Spray dryer/absorber technologies that can be combined with FF or ESP technologies are discussed, along with direct sorbent injection (DSI) technologies. This chapter considers both selective catalytic reduction and selective noncatalytic reduction for NO x control. This chapter briefly reviews mercury and hazardous air pollutant control, documenting that DSI using activated carbon and frequently halogenated activated carbon is popular with utilities. This chapter documents that no carbon capture and storage technology has been commercially proven and implemented to date.
