Popis: A large number of patients with CKD suffer from anemia. This anemia is primarily due to iron deficiency as well as disturbances in the erythropoietin and hepcidin hormonal axes. The most recent guidelines for the management of the anemia associated with CKD are those of KDIGO, published in 2012. These guidelines emphasize the importance of detecting and treating iron deficiency before prescribing an erythropoiesis-stimulating agent (ESA), and they also recommend minimization of ESA use to all-time low levels. Anemia is not the only hematologic disorder associated with CKD, as patients often experience disruption of hemostasis that can lead to episodes of both thrombosis and bleeding.
