In this project, we investigate the role of bilingualism in 8-10 month old infants' visual recognition memory using a novel visual paired comparison task which combines three stimuli sets of varying social salience: cats and dogs, mailboxes, and faces. Children are categorized as bilinguals if their exposure percent to a second language, using the Language Exposure Assessment Tool, equals or exceeds 20%. If not, the child is labeled as monolingual. This detailed language exposure tool allows us to examine the role of bilingualism as a binary, continuum, and profile factor. We will also consider infants' exposure to Latino ethnicity as well as different races. |
