Interaction of Friction and Temperature at the Chip-Tool Interface in Metal Machining

Popis: The significance of chip-tool interface friction-temperature characteristics in metal machining is pointed out. For orthogonal metal machining with Type 2 chip an approximate analysis of the interface temperature, or cutting temperature, is given for linear friction-temperature characteristics and small rake angles. In the analysis, the coefficient of friction and the temperature are expressed in terms of the cutting velocity, the physical properties of the material, and constants obtained from the data of Chao and Trigger (1).
