Zero‐Mass Representations of the Proper Inhomogeneous Lorentz Group

Popis: The representations of the proper inhomogeneous Lorentz group are investigated as a function of both real and imaginary mass, in the limit as the mass approaches zero. One obtains only the physical mass‐zero representations in either limit, the infinite spin representations being unique to zero mass. It is found that there exists a superselection rule which prohibits the position and spin operators from being physically observable in the mass‐zero limit.
