Internal erosion is one of the main causes of earthen structure failure. The early signature of internal erosion is important in identifying a possible failure point. In this study, we test the feasibility of using electrical resistivity tomography to image internal erosion on a small laboratory scale. We also develop an electrode configuration that will efficiently image the lab sample while also minimizing the elapsed time between measurements. Results show that we can capture the size of the eroded volume in the static case. |
