Popis: Keratoprosthesis is an artificial cornea used as an alternative to corneal allografts in severe diseases such as limbal stem cell failure, after chemical or thermal burns, or autoimmune diseases such as Steven–Johnson syndrome. Temporary keratoprosthesis (TPK) is used for temporary purposes to replace the opaque cornea to better visualize the retina during vitrectomy and at the end is replaced with a regular corneal allograft. Landers PMMA TPKs are commonly used during vitrectomy. Both contact and noncontact wide-angle viewing systems are successfully used with TPK. Prognosis depends upon the severity of the disease.
