Popis: | Association between HLA-DRB1 and liver damage evaluated by histological diagnosis was investigated in 132 patients infected with hepatitis C virus (HCV). The frequency of DRB1∗1502 was increased in patients diagnosed as having chronic active hepatitis (CAH), while that of DRB1∗0405 in patients with chronic persistent hepatitis (CPH), suggestive of histological minimal change in the liver, was higher than those of control individuals. In asymptomatic carriers (ASC), who had been positive for HCV-RNA but had kept normal values for more than 1 year in biochemical liver function tests, the frequencies of DRB1∗1101 and DRB1∗1302 were higher than those in CAH. Taken together, DRB1∗1502 might play a role as a promotive marker in inducing liver damage in hepatitis C, whereas in contrast, DRB1∗0405, 1101 and 1302 might contribute as suppressive or protective markers. These results further suggest that clinical courses might be affected by the immunological susceptibility of individual patients against viral antigens in hepatitis C. |
