Distributed and decentralized approaches for rail freight car management

Popis: In this chapter, cooperative rail freight car allocation planning between rail operators in different and interconnected service networks is considered. Cooperative planning is based on distributed model predictive control for managing empty and loaded freight car flows by a number of rail operators in their subnetworks in order to minimize the total freight car allocation cost. The demand is considered as deterministic, and freight car fleet as homogeneous. The developed approach has been tested against the centralized and decentralized control strategy and comparison results are presented.
