Popis: Musculoskeletal trauma and injury is ubiquitous in the austere and wilderness environments. Ultrasound can be used with great sensitivity and specificity to diagnose long bone fractures and soft tissue injuries. It has the benefit being both safe and portable. Ultrasound of muscle and soft tissue is also an important component of screening sonography after trauma, useful both to triage patients and prioritize injury management. Finally, ultrasound can be used to guide nerve blocks for joint reduction. There is ongoing research as to the utility of ultrasound for more invasive procedures in the setting of skeletal trauma, such as external fixation of long bone injuries.
