Popis: | 1. 1. Motility and respiration studies on honey bee sperm support the hypothesis that the hypertonic environment of the queen spermatheca due to high concentrations of Na + and K + ions may be responsible for longevity of spermatozoa in a non-motile state. 2. 2. Comparatively lower concentrations of these cations in the queen haemolymph may provide the mechanism for reactivation of quiescent spermatozoa. |
