Popis: This essay examines Wilhelm Worringer’s Agyptische Kunst (1927) as a reactionary indictment of modernity in Weimar Germany that reverses exactly his influential positions in Abstraktion und Einfuhlung (1908). Worringer’s surprising parallel of ancient Egypt and modern America anticipates the visionary tourism of Baudrillard’s Amerique (1986) and reveals an affinity between postExpressionist and postModernist discourse.
