Clinicians generally poorly value sexual dysfunctions and those interfere directly in the patients’ physical and psychosocial health as well as in his or her partner’s and they also might affect negatively their quality of life. Objective: This study carried out a comparative analysis between the quality of life of patients with chronic kidney disease undergoing hemodialysis with and without sexual dysfunction. Patients and Method: This is a comparative cross-sectional study. The sample consisted of 60 participants undergoing treatment in a Renal Replacement Therapy Unit. Data were collected throu-gh individual interviews, using the following instruments: Patients’ characteristics, Male or Female Sexual Quotient, and SF-36 Quality of Life Questionnaire. Results: It was observed better perception in the “social aspects” from quality of life dimension. “Physical aspects” scored the lowest median value. The assessed sexual function was classified as “unfavorable to the regular” for both sexes. The participants who had the sexual function classified as regular to excellent, showed better perception of quality of life in all domains of the SF-36. There was statistical significance in the fields: Physical Aspects, Pain and Social Aspects. Conclusion: It was verified that patients with chronic kidney disease undergoing hemodialysis presenting better sexual function had better quality of life compared to those who reported poor sexual function. |
