Myopic macular hole, with or without retinal detachment, represents the extreme end of myopic traction maculopathy-related pathological spectrum. The multifaceted nature of the pathogenesis poses an intriguing challenge in patients requiring surgical intervention. Variable success rates have been reported for the techniques for MMH surgery due to technical difficulties of the procedures entailed, intra-operative iatrogenic hazardous manoeuvres, or failure to address the pathogenetic process. The reported success rates of the suprachoroidal buckle, either performed solely or combination with pars plana vitrectomy (PPV), are attributed to the effectiveness of this approach in reversing the pathologic process leading to MTM and its related pathologies. The method offers a useful tool in the treatment of MTM-related pathologies. |
