Popis: that is, the array formation is due tocapillary forces during the evaporation of the dispersionmedium at the meniscus on a substrate, such as hydro-philized glass, which is vertically placed in the latexsuspension.Thismethodisparticularlyattractiveduetosimplicity(no special equipment required) and reproducibility.However, the array quality depends on particle size,polydispersity, colloidal stability, material density andsurfaceproperties.Ourexperiencewithverticaldepositionfrom aqueous suspensions revealed that the best qualityofarrayswasobtainedwithhighlyhydrophiliccore-shellpolystyrene-hydroxyethylmethacrylate (PS-HEMA) par-ticles. This type of particles was also mentioned earlierfor their good array-building properties.
