The abuse of drugs is worldwide. This abuse is especially common among young people, who use the Internet as a simple way to find, order, and buy these substances. Over the past several years, the “legal highs,” drugs created or modified from changes in the molecular structure of a known illegal substance without loss of psychotropic effects, have appeared on the market. Despite having the same effects as illicit drugs, these compounds are not listed as controlled by legislation and they are freely sold on the Internet. This chapter summarizes this issue, as well giving general information about the main drugs of abuse sold by Internet Web sites. |
