Popis: Colletotrichum lindemuthianum was isolated from six dry bean samples grown in Manitoba in the 2001 season. The isolates were inoculated onto a set of 12 differential accessions for race identification. All isolates produced sporulating lesions only on differentials ‘Michelite’ (navy bean) and ‘Cornell 49242’ and ‘Mexico 222’ (black beans), a reaction profile typical of race 73. Navy beans ‘Agri-1’ and ‘Envoy’ were resistant to race 73 while pinto beans ‘Buster’, ‘AC Pintoba’, ‘Apache’, and ‘Kodiak’ were susceptible. Until resistant cultivars are available, a zero tolerance for anthracnose in commercial seed lots and tighter control of seed production fields are suggested as mechanisms to reduce the negative impact of this pathogen in the region.
