Popis:	The mannosyl pyridylsulfone 1 undergoes a remarkably efficient coupling reaction with the 2-deoxy-C2-formyl glycoside 2 in the presence of samarium diiodide to provide the corresponding C-disaccharide in high yield. This represents the first step in the synthesis of C-mannobioside, a synthesis which closely resembles approaches employed in O-glycosylation.
