Popis: The major function of the digestive system is to provide for the nutrient requirements of the host in the form of water, electrolytes, protein, carbohydrate, fat, vitamins, and macro- and micronutrients. In carrying out this function, the gastrointestinal tract is inevitably exposed to a variety of foreign chemical compounds that may have a deleterious action on intestinal functions. This chapter is concerned with the adverse effects of environmental chemicals entering the gastrointestinal tract.
