Popis: | An image technique (due to Sommerfeld) that is appropriate for finding the potential of an electrical charge near a conducting semi-infinite sheet is reviewed. The technique is extended to a conducting disk by a coordinate transformation. The forces on a charge near a conducting semi-infinite sheet and near a conducting disk are found. In this case, the potential is required to vanish on the surface of the conductors. By requiring the normal derivative to vanish, the forces on a magnetic monopole are computed for the same geometries. The application of Sommerfeld's Green's functions to certain boundary value problems is discussed. |
