Popis: Tank goby (Glossogobius giuris) is the most dominant fish caught in the Mainit lake, and recent studies conducted in Mainit lake show the deteriorating status of the lake's water. The purpose of the study is to determine whether the Tank goby that are the most dominant species in Mainit lake in terms of catch, contains bacteria using the following parameters; Coliform count MPN/g, E.coli count MPN/g, S. aureus count CFU/g, and Salmonella per 25 grams. The researchers collected three fish samples in three different sampling sites in Mainit lake: residential, commercial, and undisturbed. Two samples, namely; sample 1 and 2, yielded a Coliform count of >1600 MPN/g and 220 MPN/g, respectively. This has exceeded the standard limit of Coliform count on fresh frozen fish based on the International Commission on Microbiological Specification for Food (ICMSF, 1986) and the Philippines Food and Drugs Administration. In the second parameter, the E.coli count, only sample 1 yielded the highest count with >1600 MPN/g, exceeding the acceptable E.coli count in fish based on International Commission on Microbiological Specification for Food (ICMSF, 1986) and the Philippines Food and Drugs Administration. The third parameter is the S. aureus count, and all samples yielded an estimated 10 CFU/g which is below the standard limit set by ICMSF and the Philippines FDA. And the last parameter is the Salmonella per 25 grams. Only one sample has tested positive for Salmonella. That is sample 2 collected from the commercial site in Lake Mainit. With all the data gathered, the researchers then formulated the conservation measures, which is the output of the study.
