Popis: | Luteoforol, prepared by reduction of eriodictyl with sodium borohydride, is characterized by the formation of luteolinidin when heated with aqueous HCl and by the formation of a blue-rose colour when treated with cold mineral acid. The latter property is used in a survey of the luteoforol content of the tissues of Kaffir Corn during a whole season's growth. The red colour of the seed-coat and the red or black colour of the glumes of the mature grain appear to be due to complexes (“phlobaphenes”) embodying apigeninidin and/or luteolinidin, the latter arising from the luteoforol present in the green tissues. |
