Popis: | Desmopressin, given orally, intranasally, or subcutaneously, is the conventional treatment for central diabetes insipidus. However, when used in infants, the risk of wide fluctuations in sodium levels and water toxicity increases. Thiazides, a class of diuretics, are the standard of care for treating nephrogenic diabetes insipidus. These have also shown efficacy in the management of central diabetes insipidus, particularly in infants. The following case illustrates the successful use of thiazides in treating an infant with central diabetes insipidus secondary to panhypopituitarism due to holoprosencephaly. |
