Summary In a diluted THF solution the reaction of phenylmagnesium bromide and dipy affords (dipy)Mg(Ph). But black paramagnetic crystals of (dipy)MgBr(THF) and diphenyl are obtained if the nickel(II) complexes (dipy) x NiX 2 (X = Cl, Br) are added to the reaction mixture. A paramagnetic species is also formed by photochemical decomposition of the diagmagnetic product which is precipitated from a concentrated solution of phenylmagnesium bromide and dipy in THF. The ESR spectrum of the new compound is shown. |
