Children (inclusive of all young people up to the age of 18 years) form a significant part of the total population, not only in terms of numbers, but also in terms of significance. The health of children should therefore be seen as doubly important — because children are important individual citizens in their own right, and because of the importance of en- suring the continued health and well-being of society. This is further deepened by the fact that children are in general dependent upon the pattern of care and services provided for them, and are little able to influence their macro determinants of health. |
