Introduction: Stroke and advanced age may cause low lung capacity and blood values. Breath holding time; Godfrey and Campbell has been used in respiratory physiology as a measure of respiratory response in their studies. Partial carbondioxide in the artery is determined by pressure and lung volume, and while normally 46 mmHg, breathing reaches up to 49 mmHg in the physiological cessation phase. After this point, the combat phase is started and continues until the airway is opened. The aim of our study is to determine whether there is any positive or negative relationship between breath holding time and blood parameters. Method: 27 stroke patients were included in the study. Breath holding time, blood values, Hg, iron, iron binding, Hct, and vitamin d and B12 values were recorded. Pearson correlation test was used for statistical analysis. Results: The mean age and body mass index of the participants in the study were 63.06 ± 14.80 and 24.56 ± 3.58, respectively. In the correlation between evaluated parameters, it was found that there was a positive correlation between breath holding time and Hg and Hct values (see Table 1). Conclusion: Partial oxygen and carbon dioxide pressures and blood elements in the blood affect the breath holding time. People with high blood storage capacity and carbon dioxide and oxygen capacity can hold their breath longer. As a result, we think that the higher the hemoglobin and hematocrit levels in the blood, the longer the breath holding time can increase. |
