Female sexual dysfunctions are in general divided into different entities: sexual interest and arousal disorder, orgasm disorders, sexual pain, and penetration disorders. In clinical practice, it is important to understand that these dysfunctions often coexist in the same patient, that they may interact with each other in a circular way, and that they share a combination of biological, psychological, relational, and sociocultural factors in their pathogenesis. Sexual health care for women therefore needs a biopsychosocial approach considering the different life phases with their specific biological and psychological changes and challenges. |
