Popis: The analysis of the IR spectra of (VIII)-(XIX) was performed to explain the means of the coordination of the ligands with the central ions; this showed that the SBs obtained on a matrix of the Co 2+, Ni 2+, Cu 2+, or Zn 2+ ions behave as bidentate ligands being coordinated with the metal ions via the oxygen of the sulfoxide group and the pyrimidine (V) or thiazole (VI), (VII) nitrogen with the formation of the six-membered metal-containing ring. This is supported by the splitting into two components and the shift into the low-frequency region, by 50-20 cm -I, of the absorption bands of the stretching and deformation vibrations of these bonds, as well as the appearance of the absorption bands of the stretching vibrations of the metal-nitrogen and metal-oxygen bonds in the region of 530-405 cm -~ The participation of other functional groups in the coordination with the metal ions is excluded since their characteristic frequencies are virtually unchanged by comparison with the SBs (V)-(VII)o
