Popis: | A two-color optical distance-measuring instrument has been developed and field tested. Results show that the instrument has a short-term (1 day) precision of 1 part in 107 and a long-term (months) precision of 2 parts in 107 without requiring atmospheric temperature measurements. Simultaneous measurements taken with a model 4 geodimeter and with the two-color instrument show that the two-color instrument has an improvement of a factor of 10 in the standard deviation over the older model 4. An analysis of the variances of the measurements shows that no significant increase in precision of distance measurements can be made with this particular model 4 instrument even with greatly improved temperature measurements. Only an instrument with inherently greater precision can benefit from greatly improved temperature measurements. |
