Bacterial spot caused by Xanthomonas sp. pv. passiflorae is an important disease of passion fruit (Passiflora edulis Sims, i.flavicarpa Deg.) in Brazil. The disease on leaves is characterized by the presence of necrotic lesions surrounded by chlorotic halo. These local lesions usually progress towards a systemic invasion of the whole plant, resulting in the death of the passion fruit tree. The species P. edulis f. flavicarpa, the most cultivated in Brazil, is very susceptible to bacterial spot. |
