Popis: Peter Gerstoft’s seismo‐acoustic inversion system uses a Genetic Algorithm to search the parameter space and to estimate the errors in the inversion results, and allows the selection of one of several forward models in the inversion process. The current paper tests this system using data from an experiment conducted off the coast of Panama City by Steve Stanic in the summer of 2001. In the experiment, a vertical array was placed in shallow (6.62 m depth) water and ensonified by a submerged source at distances ranging from 20 m to 90 m. In addition, a number of environmental measurements were taken, making this a suitable data set for acoustic inversion. The SAGA system will be used with several forward models for a comparison.
