Popis: | Another effective way to achieve sustainability in civil engineering is to push the service life of the structural members from the environmental effects. It has been reported that well-maintained slabs have performed sound during their service life as compared to the degraded one over a short period of time due to poor maintenance. Cracking and deformation of slab over the sustained load is one of the most important aspect related to serviceability. The deflection and crack propagation can be minimized by the application suitable retrofitting technique using locally available material and also enhance flexural capacity. The main purpose of this examination is to utilize the flexural properties of the natural fibers, such as Jute and Coir, these fibers are chemically treated to enhance both mechanical and durability properties. Total five slabs are cast, out of which one was regarded as controlled slab (CS) and the remaining four slabs are retrofitted by jute and coir fiber with varying percentage of the fiber content, respectively. Epoxy was used for the application of fiber on to slabs. Slabs were tested under static condition by applying uniformly distributed load over the slab through an arrangement called load spreader, and the results are tabulated. From the comparison of test results and with illustrated graphs it was observed, the first crack load and ultimate load increased. |
