Popis: Ankylosis is a temporomandibular joint (TMJ) pathology characterized by bone and/or fibrous union between the condyle and the glenoid fossa, restricting joint movements. The etiology of ankylosis may be related to infectious processes, local traumatology, radiotherapy, and TMJ tumors. Among the consequences are the limitation of mouth opening, limited chewing capacity, difficulty in phonation, and oral hygiene. The objective of this research was to report a clinical case of unilateral bone ankylosis of TMJ in a male patient with a history of firearm projectile aggression, which presented 3 mm of interincisal distance and was submitted to a right-sided gap arthroplasty and bilateral coronoidectomy. Satisfactory results were achieved by removing the bone ankylotic block appropriately, with excellent intraoperative joint movement, as well as for early therapeutic monitoring. The patient is being followed up in an outpatient clinic with no signs of relapse and with good oral opening.
