Zinc tungstate (ZnWO4) has shown promise as a new scintillation material. Earlier photoluminescence studies were restricted to room temperature. In the present work, the photoluminescence from single crystals of ZnWO4 is studied in the temperature range of 20-400 K. A remarkable peak located in the infrared is reported for the first time. The zero-phonon line of this peak is located near 827 nm. The behavior of the color centers of ZnWO4 is analyzed. Based on lattice relaxation and the theory of multiphonon transitions, the spectral properties are discussed. |
