In this paper, a novel design and simulation of dual radii polymeric microneedle array for blood extraction have been presented. Structural and fluidic analyses have been performed to investigate the mechanical strength of microneedles and fluid flow rate through the lumen regions using ANSYS software. The effect of axial and transverse loads on the microneedles during skin insertion is investigated in the stress analysis. The analysis predicts that the resultant stress values due to applied bending and axial loads are in the safe range. Fluidic analysis shows that the proposed design is suitable for blood extraction because different lumens radii are useful to avoid the clogging effect due to pressure difference. |
