Popis: Magnetite was successfully obtained from the reduction of maghemite in the presence of silver nanoparticles (AgNP), over the surface of 304 stainless steel (304SS). This AgNP-assisted process allowed the prevalence of magnetite even in an aqueous environment at 288 °C and a pressure of 8 MPa. The investigation was performed in three stages, which included oxidation of 304SS samples, followed by a hydrothermal deposit of AgNP over the oxidized 304SS surfaces and finally, a thermal treatment of these samples at high temperature and pressure. The samples were characterized by scanning electron microscopy (SEM), X-ray diffraction (XRD), Raman and Infrared spectroscopy. Stabilization of the magnetite phase through the assistance of AgNP allows proposing an alternative mechanism to control corrosion processes in stainless steels which perform at high temperatures.
