The synthesis of [Mo(η-C 5 H 5 )(CO) 2 LI] (L = CO or P(OCH 3 ) 3 ) and [W(η-C 5 H 5 )(CO) 3 I] by iodination of [{Mo(η-C 5 H 5 )(CO) 2 L} 2 ] and [{W(η-C 5 H 5 )(CO) 5 } 2 ], respectively, is shown to proceed via iodide bridged intermediates, [{M(η-C 5 H 5 )(CO) 2 L} 2 I] + (M = Mo or W); treatment of [Mo(η-C 5 H 5 )(CO) 2 LX] {X = CI, Br or I; L =CO, P(C 2 H 5 ) 3 , P(CH 3 ) 2 C 6 H 5 or P(OCH 3 ) 3 ; L ≠ P(C 6 H 5 ) 3 } with excess halogen leads to the formation of the molybdenum(IV) derivatives, [Mo(η-C 5 H 5 )(CO)LX 3 ]. |
