Popis: The pressure fluctuation of cooling water in the water jacket of a diesel engine is caused by the vibration of the cylinder liner induced by the piston slap. The cavitation bubbles arise from this pressure fluctuation. When the bubble is broken, the impact pressure is an injury to the wall of the cylinder liner and the cylinder block. The behavior of cavitation bubbles was observed by a high speed camera system(IMACON 790), and the numerical analysis of their behavior was compared with experimental data. The variables were the cylinder liner vibration velocity and the distance form the cylinder liner to the plate. The relation between water pressure fluctuation and bubble behavior was clear from the analysis. Also, a calculation was made in regard to the prediction of the total volume of bubbles leading to cavitation.
