During the course of the twentieth century the supply of female labour for paid employment has increased substantially. The supply of female labour has not simply adjusted automatically to meet the increased demand generated by the expansion of the predominantly female employing industries and occupations. Although demand changes have had an important influence, the female labour supply is also influenced by a number of other factors, the relative contribution of which economists have attempted to identify and to estimate. |
